¡¡¡¡Ding Shande is a composer, pianist and music educator as well as the founder of Shanghai Spring. He was born on Kunshan, Jiangsu province and died in Feb 8th, 1995 in Shanghai. He was admitted in Shanghai National Music College in 1928 to study Pipa first and then Piano one year later. He made his debut by performance of ¡®The Cowherd's Flute¡¯ and ¡®Cradlesong¡¯ and made that into record for the first time in China. He went to France to study composing in Paris Music School.  He returned China in 1949 and taught in Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He successively served as the judge for the Berlin international Schumann piano competition, Poland Chopin the sixth international piano competition, Belgium Queen Elizabeth international piano contest. He held piano concert many times. His main works include large instrumental symphony ¡®Long March Symphony¡¯, ¡®New China Symphony Combination¡¯, chorus ¡®Ode to the Huangpu River¡¯ etc. Among them, ¡®Long March Symphony¡¯ is the fifth symphony in memory of the Long March. Mr. Ding started to work on it in 1959 and finished the first three pieces in 1961 and performed it in Shanghai Spring for the first time that year. This is the first orchestral works depicting the great historical events in China.
