Xi Qiming was born on Jan. 9, 1941 in Chongqing. In 1954, he went to the high school affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music and graduated from Composing Department in 1966. As composer of Shanghai Ballet Troupe, member of Chinese Musicians Association, and national composer, he took part in creation of‘Occupying Weihu Mountain by Strategy’in 1968. He is of multiple music styles and competent in different themes, forms, styles and types. For example, Ballet‘Soul’,‘Gone Love’,‘Song of Youth’become treasures of Chinese Ballet and driver of its development. In 1980s, he created another representative works, lyrical symphonic poem‘Yearning’, which is popular to audiences and players and become one of repertoires of China symphony works.

　　Mr. Xi is deeply connected with Shanghai Spring. In the first Shanghai Spring in 1960, he participated in the first performance in the opening ceremony. Mr. Xi said that he was deeply attached to Shanghai Spring and many of his works were firstly played here. His‘Yearning’was firstly showed in Putuo Theater and won award in 110th Anniversary of Sun yat-sen. This is another one of his early works. He is not only a participant of Shanghai Spring, creator of music works, but also organizer of 14th Shanghai Spring. Sometimes, he is also faithful audience.
