Gu Guanren was born in Haimen, Jiangsu and graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1965. He acted as director and art director of Shanghai National Orchestra, Vice Chairman of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, and is a signed composer for Shanghai Radio, Film and Television Art Center, director of Chinese Musician Association, Deputy Director of National Music Committee, Honorary President of China Nationalities Orchestra Society.

　　Mr. Gu had many of his works debuted in Shanghai Spring and SSIMF has witnessed his road to art. In 1960, the works composed with Ma Shanglong‘Fish Man Song in East Sea’was debuted in the festival. At the early stage of his career, his‘Tone of Jing’and‘36’was showed in the festival, which was precious for him as a young composer. After Cultural Revolution, his works such as concerto of Pipa‘Hua Mulan’and‘Spring’, etc. were showed in the festival, which is conducive to the maturity of his style. After that, his works in 1980s such as‘Hua Mulan’, suite of‘Spring’,‘Tinkling Camel Bells’and‘Green Fields’as well as lately works the team concerto‘Omni-instrumental Ensemble’, concerto‘Peony Pavilion’performed with flute and Guzhen, are representative works of Gu Guanren in different times, with unique styles respectively. most of them made their debut in SSIMF.
