Ⅰ、 The Theme
Shanghai
Spring International Music Festival is the oldest music festival in China. For
over five decades,
it has been dedicating to bringing in new works made by newcomers, carrying
forward Chinese national music, introducing excellent music worldwide as to
arouse cultural exchanges, enriching people’s spiritual and cultural life as to
promote cultural development and prosperity. A large number of classical music
works goes nationwide and even global. As one of the important performing forms
of folk instruments contemporary, Chinese national chamber music enables a large amount of outstanding works to spread and hand
down, and pushes forward the well development of national music. Meanwhile, taking
roots in the folk and the public, Chinese national instruments always need to
find the particular music for expression during the history
Taking
place in the 34th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, “Seeking for the Music of China” – the 6thLiu Tianhua Awards for Chinese Chamber Music is now calling for fine
national chamber music works worldwide. It provides all the aspiring composers
who are devoted to the development of folk music arts with a great stage where
they can show their talents. It also aims to recognize more high-standard Chinese
chamber music works featuring melodious, fine and popular.
Activities
related to the event mentioned above will be held during the 35thShanghai Spring International Music Festival in 2018, including final
competitions, award ceremonies, creation summits, rehearsal performances and
exchange symposiums, etc.

Ⅲ、Evaluation Procedure
(1)The competition
is divided into two rounds including preliminary contests and finals.
(2)The organizing
committee intends to invite expert composers, conductors, musicians, critics, scholars, etc. who have
made remarkable achievements in the field of Chinese national music as judges
at the preliminary contests. 10 pieces of work will be selected for the finals.
(3)In the finals,
the organizing committee will invite people of different social classes,
professions and ages to be the spot judges. As for voting, each one of the
judges could vote for 6 favorites. The first prize will only be given to the
one with the highest votes that cover over 60% of the total. Otherwise, the
first prize will be vacant.
(4)A live
performance of ten shortlisted pieces of work will be given by the performers
from Shanghai Chinese Orchestra. And enough opportunities of discussion and
rehearsal will be provided for both the composers and the performers.

All rights go to the
committees, including any vacancy of the prize.
In
addition to the certificate and bonus, the first prize winner will own a chance
to become a contracted composer in residence of Shanghai Chinese Orchestra.
Ⅴ、Participants
All the people who are good at
Chinese chamber music composition, regardless of their ages, nationalities or
regions, including but not limited to composers, professionals and teachers or students
from related organizations or colleges, amateurs, etc.
Ⅵ、Requirements
(1)All entries should be
melodious, fine and popular with an emphasis on innovativeness and
contemporariness. Composition could be combined with various elements from Chinese
myths, Chinese folks and ethnic music, Chinese operas, etc.
(2)All entries should be composed
after 2015 and haven’t won any other prizes.
(3)All entries should be
within 10 minutes.
(4)Performers
for each piece of work should be within 10 people. All instruments are allowed,
except that the main performing instrument should be Chinese ethnic one. Instruments
used could refer to the index made by Shanghai Chinese Orchestra.
(5)All works, related to
re-composition of existing music, film interludes and any music clips, should
abide by the Copyright Law of the People’s Republic of China. All participants
are required to have the intellectual property ownership rights and to promise
that all entries wouldn’t encroach any other third party’s intellectual
property ownership rights and any other related interests. The work-owner
should be responsible for any relevant copyright infringement activities and
any individual or collective economic and mental loss. Our event and all the organizations
involved will not claim responsibility for any of the above issues.
(6)The organizing committee
possesses the rights to use the awarded music works free of charge in any
related performance, including (but not limited to) the Award Ceremony, etc. Agreements
of publishing the entries will be separately signed by the committee and composers
according to the Copyright Law.
Ⅶ、Entry Submission
All
entries should be submitted via post, and each submission should contain:
(1)An
entire score (musical notation), including orchestration, printed in B4 with 7
copies. (Except for the title, composing
date and the other necessary illustrations, no composer names or any other
irrelevant marks are allowed. Otherwise the qualifications will be cancelled.)
A PDF-format disk of the whole score is also needed.
(2)A CD of submitted music or entry demo
(3)Hardcopy and softcopy of the entry introduction
(4)Find

entry copies are non-refundable.
