Spreading ¡°Voice of China¡± Worldwide, "Dunhuang" Composed by Ye Xiaogang Premiered in Opening Concert of SSIMF

¡¡¡¡In recent years, many contemporary original symphonies of China have beenbrilliant in international arena. Another new work full of Chinese culture connotation will be premieredglobally in the opening concert of 34thShanghai Spring International Music Festival held in the evening this Friday. It is "Dunhuang", a large orchestral work created by composer Ye Xiaogang,Chairman of Chinese MusiciansAssociation,commissioned by Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
¡¡¡¡Representative works coagulatingreflections of Ye Xiaogang on Chinese culture will also be played in the opening concert, such as "Emei","Song of Sorrow and Joy","Starlight"and "Light of Himalaya". These works will be played in his hometownShanghai for the first time. Ye Xiaogang was interviewed by our reporter and said that,each Chinese artist has a "Chinese heart", only when our native music culture is flourishing, can we have a betterinternational stage.
¡¡¡¡Inspired by Splendid and Long History and Culture of Silk Road
¡¡¡¡Ye Xiaogang disclosed that,Shanghai Symphony Orchestra had commissioned him to compose twoworks. In this commission, Parties reached a consensus quickly on the theme of works, that is Dunhuang, the important town along Silk Road. In his study in Composition Department of Central Conservatory of Music, he read a book "Path of Beauty"and was intoxicatedby description of Dunhuang culture. His graduation work "No. 1Violin Concerto"created in 1983 took Dunhuang as theme."In the early 1980s, Professor Ye Dong in Shanghai Conservatory of Music published Study on Dunhuang Music Scores. I used core pitch in my graduation paper. Up to now, Ye Xiaogang still admires grotto art, ancient books and records of Dunhuang."Dunhuang frescoes"are crystallization of emotions and artistic inspiration from generations of artists, which reflect extensive and profound ideological contents and aesthetic tastes. Even slightest facial expression in the picturescan arouse countless inspiration."
¡¡¡¡"Dunhuang"created by Ye Xiaogang this time takes the splendid and long history and culture of Silk Road as inspiration. He applied Western techniques intoChinese elements and composed an impassioned symphonic suite. He said:"the splendid Chinese civilization including Dunhuang culture is inexhaustibletheme forChinese musicians. I hope more Chinese musicians can jointo spread wonderful "Sound of China"all over the world".
¡¡¡¡"I hope to compose a new work with Shanghai theme within recent 5 years"
¡¡¡¡Although he spends most time of work and life in Beijing now, he lived in Shanghai before 23 years old. He expressedthat, the performanceof his work in SSIMFis also a significant root seeking trip for him.
¡¡¡¡At the early of this month,"LuteConcerto"created by Ye Xiaogang was performed by Chinese lute performer Wu Man in Concert Hall of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Wu Man commentedthat"Lute Concerto has strong Shanghai metropolitanculture appeal."For this, Ye Xiaofang said it was unintentional but nostalgia for hometown from innermost of his heart."It costs me short time to compose "Lute Concerto". When I grabbed thepen, vivid alley live scenes in childhood came to me immediately, and soft Suzhou dialect and tone of dialect in northern Jiangsu merge into the work naturally."He also said that,he likes unique tune and rhymeof Shanghai dialect most,and hopes to create a new work with Shanghai theme within recent 5 years."At present, there are many art troupes and venues in Shanghai. Many excellent works are performed in Shanghai, which is delightful."
