(Daniel
Gerhartz)
Kyoto Nishijin textile boasts a history of 1500 years. These luxuries used to
be exclusively enjoyed by royal family and the aristocrats of Japan have
undergone the vicissitudes and finally turned into a work of high art imbued
with Japanese aesthetic color.
Ukiyo-e print is honored as the national painting of Japan. Since the 18th
century, it has exerted influence on the creating styles of American and
European masters no matter they come from the classicism or the impressionism.
The works of impressionist Daniel Gerhartz on display in this culture week still
gives a glimpse of the painting style of Ukiyo-e at that time.
As the most representative Japanese artist, Yoshinori Masuda pays close
attention to details and endows traditional materials with vigorous and natural
imagination unceasingly which demonstrates the aesthetic consciousness of Japan.
Many of his works have been collected by European and American art galleries.
Particularly, “Japanese Ink Stone” is spoken highly of by the Pope and has
become a collection of the Vatican Royal Family.
The works of noted Chinese American Ding Shaoguang will also be invited to
this exhibition.
